HOW TO PROPAGATE SANSEVIERIA AND MAKE IT BLOOM

Sansevieria, also known as mother-in-law’s tongue or St. George’s sword, is a popular and hardy plant that can be easily propagated by specific methods. Although sansevieria rarely blooms indoors, it is possible to encourage flowering under optimal conditions. Here I explain how to propagate sansevieria and encourage its flowering

PROPAGATION OF SANSEVIERIA:

BY DIVISION OF MATAS:

Select a healthy plant : Choose a mature, healthy sansevieria to divide.

Remove the plant from the pot : Carefully remove the plant from the pot and gently shake the excess soil from the roots.

Divide the clumps : Use a sharp, clean knife to divide the clumps into smaller sections. Each section should have a good root system.

Plant the new sections : Plant each section in its own pot with well-drained potting soil. Make sure the rhizome is slightly buried in the substrate.

BY LEAF CUTTINGS:

Cut a healthy leaf : Cut a healthy sansevieria leaf at a diagonal angle to expose more surface area.

Let the cut dry : Let the cut dry and heal for a few days to prevent rot.

Plant the cutting in soil : Plant the cut end of the cutting in potting soil. Keep the soil slightly moist until new roots develop.

STIMULATION OF THE FLOWERING OF SANSEVIERIA:

Provide bright indirect light : Place the sansevieria in a location where it will receive bright indirect light for most of the day.

Maintain stable temperatures : Sansevieria prefers warm, stable temperatures. Avoid sudden changes in temperature.

Reduce watering in winter : During winter, reduce the frequency of watering to simulate a period of drought.

Fertilize sparingly : Use a diluted balanced fertilizer in spring and summer to encourage growth and flowering.
It is important to note that sansevieria does not flower often indoors and can take several years to reach sufficient maturity to flower. However, by providing the right conditions and being patient, you can enjoy a healthy, blooming sansevieria in the future. Good luck!
